DANCE ALUMNI WEEK - February 19-22, 2019 This year marks the second annual event for "Dance Alumni Week". Graduates from the Mt. Hebron High School Dance Program are invited back to teach dance workshops to current dance students. Students have the opportunity to engage in conversation with alumni and discuss various aspects of dance in high school, college and the professional world. We are scheduled for four wonderful classes this year with guest teachers, Brenna Dames (2011), Christine Jenkins (2009), Rachel Petti (2010 ), and Shalini Ray (2011).
CHRISTINE JENKINS MT. HEBRON DANCE CLASS OF 2009
Christine Rebecca Jenkins is a graduate of Howard University where she majored in Telecommunications Management with a minor in Economics. She graduated with Cum Laude honors. While as an undergraduate she belonged to a host of honors societies including, Golden Key International Honour Society and Lambda Pi Beta Honor Society. During her time at Howard she participated in the Howard University SHOWTIME Band where she became Captain of the Ooh La La! Dance Line. As captain of the Ooh La La! Dance Line, Christine received recognition as one the most technically trained leaders in the country. She also received accolades as one of the best Nation’s Dance Line Captains among HBCUs. Under her leadership, the entire Ooh La La! dance organization received recognition as one of the nation’s top teams. After her college dance days, she went on to cheer for the Baltimore Blast Cheerleaders! Now you will find Christine working as a Recruitment Coordinator for the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and continues to share her gifts and talents wherever they are needed.
RACHEL PETTI MT. HEBRON DANCE CLASS OF 2010
Rachel is a Mt. Hebron Alum who has been in the dance world ever since she can remember. She is a 2014 graduate of Towson University, where she was a four-year member of the 17x National Champion Towson Dance Team. With a degree in Public Relations and Advertising, Rachel went on to expand her knowledge of the dance convention and competition industry since graduation. With the knowledge and experience of being the Director of a National Dance Competition, Rachel is now honored to be an Event Manager for the world renowned all Hip-Hop Dance Convention: Monsters of Hip Hop. She also teaches ballet, tap, and jazz at B.Funk Dance Company in Ellicott City.
Aside from dance, Rachel has a love for theater and film and has been seen in several productions at Toby's Dinner Theatre as well as extras in movies such as HBO's Game Change. With a positive outlook on life and a goal to inspire and create, Rachel hopes to continue to work in the dance field and be surrounded by such talented, incredible people.
BRENNA DAMES MT. HEBRON DANCE CLASS OF 2011
Brenna Dames is a dancer and arts administrator in Washington, DC. She graduated with honors from Elon University in 2015 with a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography and a BA in Political Science. She is currently in her second season with ReVision Dance Company, a resident company at Dance Place, and recently performed with the company at the South African State Theatre in Pretoria, South Africa. She also dances with alight dance theater. Brenna works full time at Dance Place in the Brookland neighborhood as an Education Associate and the Internship Coordinator. She also teaches in Dance Place's OutReach program.
SHALINI RAY MT. HEBRON DANCE CLASS OF 2011
Shalini Ray graduated from Mt.Hebron High School in 2011, where she was a part of both the Dance Company and Lancer Drill Team. She went on to attend Carnegie Mellon University where she earned both her Bachelors (2015) and Masters (2016) degrees. During her time at CMU, Shalini served as Student Body Vice President, was a 5-year member and captain of the Competitive Bhangra Indian Dance Team, worked as a Fitness Instructor for the Athletics Department, teaching Yoga, Zumba, and Dance Fitness, and graduated with College and University honors.
She recently made the move from DC to Boston, and during the week travels to NYC to work as a Medical Product Manager for Deloitte Consulting. One of her favorite parts of her job is getting to work in Rockefeller Plaza. In her free time, Shalini is a yoga teacher, a boxing instructor-in training, and serves as a National Fitness Ambassador for Fitfluential. Before moving to Boston, Shalini worked for Apple Inc. doing Operations Management. She also belonged to two Independent National Bhangra Dance teams that have performed at the White House, National Dance Day hosted by So You Think You Can Dance, and the NBA Washington Wizards Game Halftime Show in the past few years. She hopes to continue her passion for fitness and dance while balancing her career as long as she can!
